Believe it or not, larvae has been found under ice in our District!
Crews are out treating sewer lagoons & storm drains and checking 'standing waters' throughout the District.
Below are examples of checking and pre-treatment of mosquito habitat in sewer lagoons and storm drains.
ANIMAS MOSQUITO CONTROL DISTRICT RESIDENTS!
This is a reminder from Durango’s Special District, Animas Mosquito Control (AMCD), that our spring mosquito abatement activities have begun. AMCD will be attempting to contact you to access your property to inspect for mosquito habitats. If no one is at home, we will leave a ‘door hanger’ letting you know that AMCD was there and would like to schedule another time for inspection.
AMCD thanks all of you in our District for your support and for working with us in years past, in the present and into the future!

* With the amount of snowfall this winter and the precipitation expected through rainfall, the Animas Valley could see more than one high water event. Due to this potential, the AMCD crews may need to access properties along the river to inspect for, and treat, mosquito habitats more than once.
** AMCD is a public health service under the Special District Laws of the State of Colorado Revised Statutes, C.R.S. Title 35 Article 5, and as such is obligated to perform a variety of mosquito abatement activities to protect the health and comfort of the people, pets, livestock and wildlife in our District from mosquitoes that can carry and transmit diseases, such as; West Nile Virus, Dog Heart Worm, Zika Virus, Encephalitis, Dengue, etc.
