No Spray Contract Form
No Spray Disclaimer
Under the Special District Laws of the State of Colorado Revised Statutes, C.R.S. Title 35 Article 5, the Animas Mosquito Control District (AMCD) has the obligation to perform a variety of mosquito abatement activities that are geared toward the reduction of these insects which carry diseases that can affect the people within our district. Because insects respect no boundaries, it is important to provide these abatement activities throughout private lands in the district.
Some property owners have requested that spraying for adult mosquitoes not take place on their properties and, with limitation, the AMCD has tried to respect their requests.
It is AMCD’s policy to only spray for adult flying mosquitoes at night (Between sunset & 2 AM) when they are most active and bees and other pollinating insects are not present.
AMCD’s present philosophy and goal, is to lessen the need to spray at all, by implementing an extensive larviciding program to eliminate mosquitoes in their aquatic habitats, before they become a health threat or a nuisance.
There are excellent products available to this public health service today, several being OMRI (Organic Materials Review Institute) listed. AMCD is one of the few mosquito abatement districts that use these products and we are committed to, and fortunately able to, protect our community in this way. We want our residents to know....for us to address mosquito abatement in this manner we require access to mosquito habitats and the cooperation of property owners where these water habitats exist. Please spread the word so we can work together and continue to reduce the mosquito population in our District.
The ‘No Spray’ contract decision is something that should be soberly considered.
Especially, due to the trend of mosquito-transmitted diseases that are on the move globally, including the U.S.A., such as the West Nile Virus, Zika Virus, Dengue, Chikungunya, Malaria......etc. As of January 8, 2019 there were 96 reported cases of the WNV in Colorado for 2018, with 3 deaths. (
In the event of an influx of mosquitoes in our District, that are known vectors (disease transmitters), this contract would become null and void, as the safety of the residents of this community is AMCD’s # 1 priority. All “No-Spray” residents would be notified if this was the case.
: This “limited shut-off” of adult mosquito fogging does not imply that AMCD will not inspect and implement larvicides for mosquito larvae in their aquatic habitats, if it is necessary to do so. It is a limited agreement not to spray for the adult mosquitoes.
The Animas Mosquito Control District (AMCD) maintains a list of District residents who request a
“Limited shut-off” of mosquito adulticiding (fogging)
. This list represents a “good faith effort” by the District to shut off truck-mounted low volume aerosol equipment at property line of registered property.
This request will be rendered inactive if a public health emergency for mosquito-borne disease is declared.
: This limited shut-off of adult mosquito fogging does not imply that AMCD will not inspect and implement larviciding for immature mosquito larvae in their aquatic habitats, if it is necessary to do so. It is a limited agreement not to spray for the adult mosquitoes.
This ‘No Spray’ contract is an annual requirement.
To remain on the ‘No Spray’ list, the AMCD will require a signed contract each year.
